The ALIT Indonesia Foundation requires all board members, employees, volunteers, consultants, and partner organizations implementing activities within the organization’s programs and working environment to understand and comply with the Child Protection Policy and to conduct their work in accordance with the established Code of Conduct.
Any violation of this Code of Conduct will be reported and may be subject to sanctions. We uphold the following principles of Child Protection:
- All board members, employees, volunteers, and partner organizations implementing activities are required to respect and support children’s rights and to protect children by ensuring a safe environment.
- The ALIT Indonesia Foundation does not tolerate any form of violence against children and will take all necessary measures to enforce its Child Protection Policy.
- The implementation of this policy is the responsibility of all parties. Therefore, the ALIT Indonesia Foundation requires everyone involved in its programs and activities, including but not limited to employees, volunteers, interns, and third parties, to comply with this Code of Conduct.
I, the undersigned, have understood and agreed to comply with and faithfully implement the following commitments:
- Treat children with respect and equally, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, race, religion, or other status.
- Use appropriate language and behave appropriately when working with children.
- Maintain a positive communication culture and build trust with children, their families, and their communities so that any concerns or problems can be openly raised and discussed together.
- Educate children about their right to report any situation that causes concern.
- Ensure that, whenever working with children, they are monitored and accompanied by another responsible adult whenever possible.
- Obtain permission from the child and their parent or guardian before taking photographs, making videos, or recording a child’s story. This includes explaining to the child and their parent or guardian the purpose and intended use of the photographs, videos, or recordings.
- Immediately report any suspicion of child abuse or any violation of the ALIT Indonesia Foundation’s Child Protection Policy to the designated officer.

- Use computers, mobile phones, video cameras, and other equipment responsibly, and do not expose or publish children’s photographs, videos, or stories (whether written or visual) without the consent of the child, the child’s parent or guardian, and the responsible management staff, namely the Program Manager and Management Information System (MIS) staff.
- Comply with all relevant laws and regulations, including labor laws, laws concerning the elimination of the worst forms of child labor, and regulations limiting working hours for children participating in internships.
- Immediately report to the ALIT Indonesia Foundation any suspicion or allegation of child exploitation, violence against children, or any violation of the ALIT Indonesia Foundation’s Child Protection Policy and Code of Conduct.
- Immediately disclose any allegations, sanctions, and legal decisions concerning violations of children’s rights, including bullying, sexual violence, physical violence, exploitation, and other forms of violence that may also fall under customary law, when such matters arise within the scope of my work with the ALIT Indonesia Foundation.
- Remain alert to and avoid any actions or behavior that could be considered child exploitation or violence against children.
- Do not physically or mentally harm children in any way, or engage them in games or activities that may endanger them.
- Do not take children to my home without appropriate supervision, except when they are injured or in immediate danger.
- Do not use corporal punishment or any form of punishment intended to humiliate or shame a child.
- Do not rest or sleep near children without the supervision of another responsible adult and never be alone with a child in an inappropriate situation.
- Do not use abusive, offensive, degrading, or humiliating language toward children.
- Do not shame, insult, demean, belittle, or humiliate children.
- Do not engage in sexual activity with anyone under the age of 18, regardless of the legal age of consent under applicable law or custom, and do not use sexually provocative language or behavior toward children.
- Do not use money, employment, goods, equipment, or other benefits to obtain sexual gratification from children.
- Do not discriminate against, differentiate between, or treat children unfairly, including through exclusion or favoritism.
- Do not work or travel alone with children.
- Do not work with children while under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol.
- Do not view, produce, publish, or distribute pornography involving children, or expose children to pornography.
- Do not portray children negatively, such as by presenting them as weak, helpless, desperate, or otherwise lacking agency.
- Do not publish stories or materials that may put children, their families, or their communities at risk.
- Do not employ children in places or activities that are inappropriate for their developmental stage, interfere with their education or play, or place them in dangerous situations.
Use of Children’s Photographs and Videos for Work-Related Purposes
When photographing or recording children for work-related purposes, I must:
- Before photographing or recording children, review and make every effort to respect relevant traditions, customs, and local restrictions concerning the production of photographs or videos.
- Obtain consent from the child’s parent or guardian before taking any photographs or videos, including informing them of the purpose of taking and using the images for any form of publication.
- Ensure that every photograph portrays the child in a dignified and respectful manner, with appropriate clothing and without sexually suggestive poses. I must also ensure that the images do not portray children negatively, such as as weak, helpless, desperate, or otherwise lacking agency.
- Ensure that images honestly represent the context and facts in which they were taken.
- Ensure that image file names or document labels do not reveal the child’s identity when images are transmitted electronically.
- Use organizational or work-issued cameras whenever possible. If a work-issued camera is not available, a personal camera may be used. However, the image files must subsequently be transferred to the organization’s document storage using organizational or work-issued storage media or equipment and may only be used for work-related purposes within the scope of the ALIT Indonesia Foundation.
- Ensure that all photographs are used only for authorized work-related purposes and are not used for personal purposes.
Actions in Response to Violations
The ALIT Indonesia Foundation will take necessary action in the event of a violation of this Code of Conduct or the Child Protection Policy, including but not limited to:
- Providing assistance and taking prompt action to protect and support victims.
- Conducting an objective process to establish the facts.
- Taking disciplinary action, which may include suspension and termination of employment or contractual arrangements.
- Reporting any violation of the Code of Conduct or Child Protection Policy that constitutes a violation of applicable law to the relevant authorities.
- The ALIT Indonesia Foundation may take further measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future, including informing other organizations, where appropriate, as professional references regarding the termination of a contract resulting from a violation of the Child Protection Policy.
